Texas at Kansas State (Big 12 Football)

The final home game of the 2010 football season at Kansas State matched up the Wildcats with the Texas Longhorns from the Big 12 South Division. The Wildcats dominated from the opening kick-off when William Powell returned the kick-off 62 yards. Daniel Thomas scored on the first play from the scrimmage and the game was pretty much K-State's the rest of the night. Strangest thing I've seen...K-State was only 2-4 passing with nine yards. Nine passing yards! Crazy. Like Bill Snyder said, why pass the ball if the running game was working.

Here are a few images from the game. Thanks for looking.

2010 SI Big 12 Preview

Just found out tonight that the 2010 edition of the SI Big 12 Football Preview magazine (image #1 below) is well represented by the Sewell photographers. Most important, Sean has a double truck on pages 104-105 (K-State players taking the field; image #2 below) and another smaller image on page 7 (K-State player being tackled; image #3 below). I couldn't be more proud. Now, in addition to saying he's an award-winning photographer, he can also say he's had a double truck in SI.

Me, well, I have a couple of small images on pages 76 and 77 (Harold in top left corner and Snyder top right; image #4 below). I don't do contests, so I'm not an award winner and I've yet to have a double truck. Ha! Hey, if I can't get 'em I'm proud as can be that Sean's getting the coverage.

Thanks for looking!

(by the way, these images are taken with a cell phone; I don't have access to a scanner at the moment).

NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park

The NHRA circus came to town for the annual Summer Nationals event and I thought I would toss up some of the images from the weekend. Sean and I tag-teamed the event and got coverage taken care of for three different clients. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

KU vs K-State Baseball

The Kansas State Wildcats beat in-state rival Kansas on Sunday, 8-5, and took the three-game series, 2-1. Seemed much more like football season than baseball, with a high of 57 degrees and mist on/off throughout the day.

These were shot with a 400/f2.8 lens on a Canon Mk2n body and a Sigma 120-300/f2.8 lens on a Mk2 body, all from the first base side.

Kansas vs Kansas State

ESPN's College Gameday was broadcast from Kansas State University's Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan. on the morning and evening before the Big 12 and in-state rivalry game between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas State Wildcats.

The game was a real barn-burner with KU winning in overtime, 81-79. both teams moved up in the polls, however, with KU reclaiming the #1 spot and K-State moving up to #10.There are a few more images in this post because of the ESPN activities going on and the overtime game.

Comments, critiques and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Oklahoma State vs Kansas State

Well, as a K-State fan, I must say that was one ugly game. Fortunately, as a photographer shooting on the baseline, it's just not cool to cheer or act like a fan, so the cameras help keep me calm during frustrating games like this.

Anyway, here are a few shots from the game between Oklahoma State and Kansas State at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan. tonight. O-State won the game, 73-69. One thing is for certain, the Big 12 is tough. A team really has to be on their "A" game night in and night out.

Comments are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Texas (#1) vs Kansas State (#9)

The top-ranked Texas Longhorns came to Bramlage Coliseum (aka the Octagon of Doom!) in Manhattan, Kan., for an ESPN Big Monday match-up against the ninth-ranked Kansas State Wildcats. The place was filled to the rafters and just rocked all night long as the Wildcats knocked the Longhorns from the unbeaten ranks with a 71-62 win.

The photo spots on the baseline were packed and I ended up shooting on the Texas offensive sides both halves. Not a problem, though, as I'd rather shoot from the same team's offensive side the entire game than not get the opportunity to shoot at all.

This was a tough game not to burst out cheering, but as a proud K-State grad I was smiling inside the entire night. This blog post has a few more images than normal, but what can I saw...I took a lot more images. :)

Thanks for looking.

Texas A&M at Kansas State

Kansas State followed up the loss to Missouri with a convincing 88-65 win at home against Texas A&M. The game was never really in doubt. Next home game will be an ESPN "Big Monday" match-up against top-ranked Texas. Gotta remember my ear plugs for that game and bring down the cable locks to tie down gear in the event of a win and fans rushing the court.

For those photographers out there, I was using Canon Mark2n and Mark2 bodies with a Canon 70-200/f2.8 lens on one and a Sigma 120-300/f2.8 lens on the other. Settings were f2.8, 1/640, ISO1600. I rarely run noise reduction through my images (and didn't with these).

Thanks for looking.

South Dakota vs Kansas State

The K-State Wildcats moved up to #10 in the ESPN/USA Today poll after a convincing win over South Dakota on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.

Here are a few images from the game. Thanks for looking.
